Fr. Jim Bretl S.D.S
Pastor
St. Catherines Church
I keep going back to the opening words of the Gospel of St. Mark - that
first line of the Gospel -
that is really the title of the work: THE BEGINNING OF THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS CHRIST,
SON OF GOD. If what St. Mark wrote is the beginning of the Good News, where
is the rest of the Good News? We have to say that we are the Good News as we
come to the
end of this millennium. The Good News is not just what is written in the Bible.
The Good News
as we come to the close of this millennium is walking, talking, breathing, and loving one
another
in the Body of Christ that is St. Catherine's Catholic Community.
My prayer at this moment is that, by the power of the Spirit and through our own efforts,
the
Scriptures will be opened up for us (as for the disciples on the road to Emmaus). I
know deep
in my heart that as much as we drink in the Beginning of the Good News (the Scriptures),
to that
extent we will become the Good News and continue the mission of Christ. And we will
discover
Him anew at every Eucharistic Celebration - in the Breaking of the Bread.
